Guinea Pigs make great pets for all ages. Their real name is Cavie
but most people know them as Guinea Pigs. Adult Guinea Pigs weigh
from 2 to 4 pounds. They are not likely to bite and they don't smell
if their cage is cleaned about once or twice a week. If Guinea Pigs
are looked after properly they should live from 4 to 7 years. The
record is 14!
Breeds of Guinea Pigs
Abyssinian
The Abyssinian has a short and rough coat with around 8 whirls (rosettes.)
They weigh an average of 2 pounds. They are demanding, independant and
rather vocal.

Alpaka
The Alpaka has a long curly coat and rosettes on its hind part. It is a
cross between the Rex and Peruvian.

Crested
The Crested has short hair and no rosettes. It has a crest on its forhead
(The American cresteds is white.)

Coronet
The Coronets hair is long and parted down the middle of the back. It has
a whirl on its head. It is a cross between the Sheltie and Crested.
